Automatic Voltage Regulator ( AVR ) is an important electrical equipment in industrial sector. It is used to ensure quality power to sensitive industrial machines. It supplies constant voltage in the output even though the input voltage varies. There are at least four types of AVR depending on the working principle of them. All types have some pros and cons regarding their operation.

The main part of an AVR is a transformer which with the help of control mechanism supplies the constant voltage. The most common type of AVR uses servo motor to actively change the turn ratio of the transformer. A carbon brush is connected with the servo motor for the purpose.
